Trip Indroduction

One of the short trek from Pokhara Annapurna region, starting near Pokhara. Korchan trek is known as the “hidden gem of the Great Machhapuchhre Trail”.

Korchan trek, you start from the ethnic Gurung village Ghachok, then you walk through pristine rhododendron forests, down view of terraced fields. From the rest camp a Jiant Mt. Annapurna South, Mount Fishtail, Lamjung Himal wiil follow you. The trail opens to ridgelines above the clouds with unspoiled views of dense forests and grassy hills.

Face of Mt. Fishtail:
The biggest draw is the close-up, clear view of Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). From Khumai Danda you sit right in its shadow. At sunrise from Korchan Danda you get the most close full face of Fishtail with Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Mardi Himal.

Myth & Spiritual Aspect :
Machhapuchhre is considered sacred by locals and is believed to be the home of Lord Shiva, which is why its summit has never been climbed. The trek passes through Samsur Deurali and ethnic Gurung villages where traditional culture and mountain worship are still alive. The silence of the forests and ridges gives it a meditative, spiritual feel.

Key tips for Khumai hill trek:
1. Water: Carry 2L. Refill at teahouses. Dehydration is the main reason people feel bad above 3,000m.
2. Pace: Day 1 and 2 are about acclimatization. “Pole pole” - slow and steady in Nepali.
3. Weather: Clouds roll in by 11 AM most days. That’s why sunrise on Day 3 is non-negotiable.
4. Gear: Day 3 morning is -5°C to 0°C even in Oct/Nov. Bring gloves and a down jacket.
